Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I Feel Different About After Time

top ten tuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature created by The Broke and The Bookish. More information and bookish goodness can be found here!

Quite often, my opinion of a book changes a couple days after I read it and once I’ve seen other people’s reviews. As a rule, I don’t read reviews before I start a book, I wait until I’ve finished it and seeing other people’s thoughts often helps me sort through on my own. So here are some books my feelings changed about after time went by!

a thousand pieces of you10 // A Thousand Pieces of You by Claduia Gray
When I read this book last year, I really enjoyed it. But after a little while and once I thought about it a bit more I liked it less. Though it is really good, it just didn’t live up to my expectations like I first thought.

9 // Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
It’s been months since I read this but I definitely don’t like it as much as I did. Maybe it’s because I’m not the biggest fan of The Wizard of Oz but I’m just not a big fan of this one and I’m not in a rush to pick up the sequels.

8 // To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han15749186
I loved this book when I read it, but my feelings have definitely changed. When I think it about now I mostly think of it as a little childish and cliche. That being said, I’m super excited for Forever and Always, Lara Jean!

7 // Legend by Marie Lu
Another book I loved when I read it, but after I read the sequels (and after they put me in a slump) I loved it a lot less.

248855376 // The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
I loved loved LOVED this series when I first read it, I thought it was so fantastic. Now though I am definitely more aware of its flaws, especially after reading Cassandra Clare’s newer books.

5 // Paper Towns by John Green
I used to be so obsessed with John Green and I adored Paper Towns… When I was 14. Now though I definitely think it’s more cliche than I used to and it just isn’t quite as good as I originally thought.

4 // Dumplin’ by Julie MurphyDumplin
I really like this book while I was reading it, but later I definitely thought it was super overhyped.

3 // We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
This is another one I liked while I was reading but ended up feeling like it was overhyped, though I still really enjoyed it.

135810492 // Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
When I read this last year, I thought it was a bit meh. But now that I’ve had a lot of time to think about it, it’s definitely a lot better than I first thought and it’s taking me way too long to pick up the rest of the series.

1 // Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
I didn’t mind this book when I first read it. But once I finished it, thought about it and looked at some reviews, my feelings started to change and I realised it’s definitely not as good as I first thought.

There are some books my opinions on have changed, usually for the worst. What are some books your feelings about have changed? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Red Queen is on my list too!! I was definitely unimpressed when I first read it, but I think I felt a bit pressured to like it because it was so famous?!? But eh, no. I don’t think it was original at all, sadly. And AHHH I feel the same way about Dumplin! I ADORED it at the time, but later I realised it was actually quite a bit problematic (I mean, Willa was so hypocritical right?!) and I’ve read some reviews that made me realise it honestly isn’t the best. Gah. (I just borrowed out To All the Boys from the library though! Eeek. I hope I like it though. xD)
    Here’s my TTT!

    1. It was the same for me with Red Queen! But Glass Sword reeeally settled it for me and I was like ‘yeah… no’ XD
I was not a fan of Willa at all and it’s so sad because I really wanted to like Dumplin’!
TATBILB is really cute and sweet but I thought Lara Jean was a little immature. I hope you like it though! 😀

  2. All this talk about sequels ruining the first book makes me want to stick out my tongue and do some sort of obscene “SEE? I WAS RIGHT!” dance. (I say this because I hardly EVER read past the first book in the series, because I’m always worried the next books are going to ruin the perfection of the first. )My TTT

  3. Oh I felt the same way about Dumplin. I loved it when I was actually reading it but when I was done and reading other things I completely forgot what I even liked about. I think the hype got to my head lol

  4. I feel the same way about so many of your picks! Paper Towns was my favorite book for years but I think if I read it now, I would find it cliche and boring. I had the same reaction to We Were Liars too but my opinion of it is starting to shift more positive. It was way too hyped to me, so I found myself annoyed and disappointed in the end. Red Queen is also very meh for me, though I plan to pick up the next book before writing off the series entirely. Great list!
