October Wrap Up!

october-wrap-upOh geez, I am so late posting this! To be honest I was feeling kind of slumpy about blogging and also reading this past week so sorry about that! But here I am, bringing you my October wrap up! Though I am kind of disappointed in how many books I read this month, October was still such a memorable month for me! This will be a pretty long post so I’ll stop rambling now and get into it!

Read in October

  1. The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick – ★★★★☆
To be perfectly honest, this wasn’t as good as My Life Next Door. It was slow and I didn’t feel as much of a connection with these characters. That being said, I still really enjoyed it and the ending sealed the four star deal.
  2. The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord – ★★★★★
I was hesitant going into this because I wasn’t a huge fan of When We Collided which was the first Emery Lord book I read but omg this was so good! This book gave me so many emotions; the characters were so wonderfully developed and I just loved everything about this.
  3. What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick – ★★★★★
After not loving The Boy Most Likely To I wasn’t sure I would like this but IT IS MY FAVOURITE HUNTLEY FITZPATRICK NOVEL. I loved the characters SO MUCH and I loved the little beach town setting. It was such a fast read and I loved it.
  4. I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios – ★★★★★
I had wanted to read this for so long which meant I had a lot of expectations. And I can safely say that those expectations were met and then some! I loved the characters and their stories. This is one of the few books I’ve read that deals with PTSD and I loved seeing it represented. This book is so well written, the plot and characters so well developed, you should all read it!
  5. All the Feels by Danika Stone – ★★★★☆
I picked this up because this book is literally about fandoms and HOW GREAT IS THAT? It was so cute and fast paced, the romance was adorable and reading this was just a really fun time.
  6. Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo – ★★★★★
I still cannot believe this duology is over! I miss Kaz and the gang so much! This was such a great sequel and it smashed ALL of my expectations. I won’t say much because I’ve already posted a review but I loved it and if you haven’t read Six of Crows yet WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?
  7. Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven – ★★★★☆
Holding Up the Universe was one of my most anticipated releases for 2016 and it really was so good! I didn’t love it as much as All the Bright Places, it just didn’t pack that same emotional punch. But the characters in this book were so wonderful and they have a really special place in my heart. You can see my review here!
  8. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake – ★★★☆☆
I gave this book THREE DARK STARS (haha) because it was kind of disappointing. It wasn’t at all what I thought it would be. It was slow and kind of irritating but I am interested to see where things go in the sequel.
  9. Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley – ★★★★★
This book deserves ALL THE STARS because it is so amazing. This book is so beautifully written, the characters are so wonderful and it’s set in MELBOURNE which made me so happy! This is one of my favourite books of 2016 and you all need to read it RIGHT NOW.
  10. Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland – ★★★☆☆
Oh boy this was disappointing. There was so much whining and insta-love and it just wasn’t enjoyable. It had SO MUCH potential but it just didn’t do it for me.
  11. Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke – ★★★★☆
I was not expecting this book to be as good as it was! It was so dark, twisted and marvelous. The characters were so evil and their story was so suspenseful and just so great, you should all read it.
  12. Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff – ★★★★★
I’ve already posted a review of this book and all I really want to say right now is YES YES YES this was SO FREAKIN GOOD. I loved Hana and Nik and the pop song that is EVERYWHERE and please go read Illuminae right now if you haven’t already!
  13. The Thousandth Floor by Katherine McGee – ★★★★☆
This book was strange but in a good way. I really liked a lot of it but I do have a couple of negatives: there were too many POV’s. There were six points of view in this book and it was so difficult not to get mixed up. I also found that the world was a little confusing. I will say though that it was SO ADDICTIVE and that’s why I gave it four stars.
  14. The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan – ★★★★☆
Honestly the Magnus Chase books are my least favourites by Rick Riordan but this was really good! It was fast paced and fun and I’m looking forward to seeing what these characters get up to in the third book.

October Highlights

October was such a great month for me! The sun finally started to come out and quite a few things happened. Here’s a little list for you all:

  • I saw Mayday Parade for the first time!img_3648
Mayday Parade has been one of my favourite bands since I was 13 years old and I finally got to see them live! They were so amazing and there was this moment when all the lights went down and the band stopped playing and the crows was singing and it was such an amazing feeling, being brought together with all of these people by one band. It was wonderful.
  • I turned 18!
I am finally an adult! I can drink, get a tattoo, go to a casino, get my license, I can do ALL THE THINGS. I have yet to do those things but it feels so good to finally be legal! I reflected on my 18 years of life and shared with you all 18 things I have learned. You can see that post here!
  • I went to my first book signing!
On the 21st I went to the Gemina book launch in Melbourne and I met Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff and they are SO LOVELY. This was my first book event and it was so awesome to be around so many book lovers.

October Favourites

In October I was OBSESSED with Just Dance 2016… I think I played it every day of the month and I’ve definitely discovered my secret dancing talent.

I was also obsessed with High School Musical 2 and listened to the soundtrack on repeat for TWO WEEKS. ( I’M NOT GONNA STOP (listening to this) THAT’S WHO I AM)

I am also IN LOVE with these bookmarks from Read and Wonder on Etsy. For my birthday I got a whole HEAP of magnetic bookmarks and also these regular bookmarks and they are fabulous! They’re also an Australian store and you guys should definitely go check them out!

That’s all for this months wrap up! How as October for you? What were some of your highlights and favourites? How many books did you read? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Your October wrap-up looks great! I gave the exact same ratings to Crooked Kingdom, The Hammer of Thor, and Three Dark Crowns!
While I really loved the first two, TDC was disappointing since it felt more like a prequel. I really hope the action is going to pick up in the sequel because it definitely has potential!
