February Wrap Up & Haul!

February was a great reading month for me, I managed to read 14 books! I also managed to not buy heaps of books… Kind of. BUT I was given a few books this month so I’m not mad that my haul is maybe a little large. So without further ado, here’s my wrap up for February!

read this month

  • The Evolution of Mara Dyer – ★★★★★
For a sequel, this books was fantastic and I absolutely loved it. I loved the characters and the way the plot continued in a way that was as gripping and intense as the first novel.
  • The Retribution of Mara Dyer – ★★★★★
This was such a great conclusion! Though there were points in the book where I was a bit bored, the ending definitely made up for it and convinced me on the 5 star rating.
  • The Siren – ★★★★
I quite like The Selection series by Kiera Cass so I was pretty excited about going into this but also a bit cautious because it is a standalone. I was pleasantly surprised though. It was light and cute and fast paced. It was an easy read and I managed to get through it in less than a day.

  • Girl Online – ★★★
I had such high hopes for this book but it just fell so flat! I wanted to love it because I do love watching Zoe’s YouTube videos but it just didn’t do anything for me. I didn’t hate it but I was definitely underwhelmed. Check out my full review here.
  • Night Owls – ★★★★★
I loved this book so much! I’d seen a lot of mixed reviews before and after I read it but I thought it was great. So much happened in such a small amount of pages. I loved the characters and the plot and it was just a really nice contemporary read. Check out my full review here.
  • Why We Broke Up – ★★★★
I had high expectations going into this because I’d seen a lot of good reviews and it most definitely did not let me down! I loved watching the progression and the downfall of the relationship between Ed and Min and even though it was pretty sad (I will admit to shedding a few tears) I loved it.
  • The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender – ★★★
Once again, I had high expectations for this book because so many people love it but I just didn’t. I was bored for at least half of it and it didn’t really pick up until the end. Unfortunately, this book was too late in redeeming itself and I gave it 3 stars.
  • See How they Run – ★★★★
I was going to give this book 3 stars but decided on 4 because it was a sequel and I quite liked the ending. Though I had quite a few problems with it and it just wasn’t as good as All Fall Down. I really was expecting more.

  • Finding Paris – ★★★★
I was surprised by how much I loved this book! I thought it was going to just be a cute, fluffy read but it actually deals with a much darker topic (trigger warning for rape) and it really made me think.
  • This is Where I Leave You – ★★★
I absolutely love the movie adaption of this book so I was expecting to love the book just much but I didn’t. I think this was the kind of novel that translates better into film than on the page. I didn’t hate it but it wasn’t great.
  • Passenger – ★★★★
This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2016 and it didn’t let me down. I don’t really read YA historical fiction but I loved this and it got me in the mood to read a lot more! The writing style was great, as was the plot and the characters.
  • The Unbound – ★★★★★
Okay, guys this series is AMAZING. I love it so much. The writing is fantastic, the plot is epic and the characters are all badass. If you haven’t started this series yet then WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE? No but seriously, I recommend this so hard. My review of this will be up on Thursday!
  • A Monster Calls – ★★★★★
Patrick Ness is such an amazing writer and this book was great. It was sad and touching and fast paced and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the movie to come out!
  • The Treatment – ★★★ (not pictured)
I was going to read this is in March but I was too excited to wait and managed to squeeze it in but sadly, I was so let down. I loved The Program and the plot and just the whole book in general so I expected good things from its sequel. But, it just didn’t deliver. I was bored for nearly all of it and it just didn’t capture my attention.

My friend is buying me the rest of the series in the new covers this week and I’ll be re-reading them soon because I miss the Mortal Instruments and the Shadowhunters TV show is just nope. Would anyone be interested in doing a read-a-long?

Only 12 books! My haul is actually a lot smaller than I thought it was, but I may have missed a couple. I bought most of these books in the first week of February because I have since started the Project 5 which is basically where I read 5 books before buying 1. It’s working so far but I have no idea if it will be working in a months time since I start working in a week!

listening to

Because music is also a really big part of my life, I thought I would share with you all some of my favourite songs this month. I’ve just started using Spotify on my phone and it’s great because I don’t always want to take my iPod everywhere.
